Description

Thousands rallied outside the Constitutional Court in Chisinau, on Tuesday, protesting against the verification of the legitimacy of the Shor party and its possible ban.

Footage features rally participants holding anti-government placards and signs while chanting: 'Constitutional Court is Maya Sandu's puppet', 'Stop PAS fascism!', and 'PAS lawyers deal with politics at the Constitutional Court', among others.

"Today the party is closed - mouths kept shut. Tomorrow a person is locked [in prison], and nobody will say a word. [They] come to your house, put charges and nobody will protect you, because there is already a precedent. So if [we have] a law-based society, then the law must be in charge, not the decisions that your dislike tells you to make," one of the protesters said.

According to the Shor party official website's announcement, party Vice-Chair Marina Tauber was present at the meeting, but 'she was not allowed to address the gathering'.

"Thank you, the victory will be ours," Tauber told the protesters meeting her.

No reports on demonstrators detention were released by Moldovan Ministry of Internal Affairs at the time of publication.

On 10 May, the Moldovan Constitutional Court, at the Government's request, began a constitutional review of the activities of the Shor party. The fourth hearing in the case was held on Monday.
