03:21Russian President Vladimir Putin met up with World Youth Festival (WYF) participants at the international Russia exhibition in Moscow on Monday - including Davis Akampurira from Uganda, whom he had jokingly 'adopted' during the event earlier this year.

"Thank you so much for the opportunity. I became popular in my country after the photo with you. And very soon, in November, I will be getting married, thanks to this," Akampurira said.
"I’ve, of course, been … active with student politics and I plan to advance… but you know… in African politics is commercialised, and we need, of course, your support in terms of the next step I need to take in my political career," the student continued.
Putin congratulated him on his wedding and also discussed his agricultural work. While speaking with a participant from the UAE about strengthening ties between their countries and promoting 'entrepreneurship and startups', the president also said he would discuss it with his Emirati counterpart.
"We are friends with him. And he always says that he wants to support the youth," Putin added.
The Sirius World Youth Festival was held in March. At the time, Akampurira admitted to the Russian president that he wanted to 'become his son from Africa' and see him as his mentor, while Putin also referred to Davis as 'son'.
