Rosatom Director General Alexei Likhachev said that representatives of the BRICS group 'agree unanimously' on the decision to create a unified nuclear energy platform, speaking during a meeting in Moscow on Thursday.

"It would be no exaggeration to say that all participants in the meeting, all attendees of our session, agree unanimously to advance as quickly as possible the legal formalisation, which has already begun, of the BRICS Nuclear Platform, and to create and implement an organisation’s development programme," Likhachev clarified.

The head of the state corporation added that the "solely peaceful use of nuclear energy was underlined" during the talks.

Mengistu Balcha Tufa, a member of the Nuclear Energy Expert Group of the Ethiopian Ministry of Innovation and Technology, stated that a single platform on nuclear energy within the BRICS framework would allow for the exchange of experience and training of relevant specialists from different countries.

"The platform is very important for all BRICS members, especially for a country like Ethiopia. We are developing country. BRICS members have a lot of experience in developing the technology and implementing the technology. So we have to exploit this opportunity," Mengistu Balcha Tufa said.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24. Leaders from more than 24 countries are expected to attend, with Russia's closest neighbours and partners in the Eurasian Economic Union and Commonwealth of Independent States also invited. Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024.
