NATO is at war with Russia and is using Ukrainians as foot soldiers in the conflict, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared at a meeting with the heads of leading BRICS media in Novo-Ogaryovo, Moscow Region on Friday.

The Russian leader added that the Kiev regime is willing to sacrifice its servicemen for the cause, while Western militaries operate advanced weaponry.

"NATO is at war with us by the hands of Ukrainian soldiers. Ukraine does not spare its soldiers in the interests of a third state. But Ukraine does not use high-tech weapons itself, NATO does. And the Russian army fights, creates military products and software by itself. And this is a huge difference," the Russian leader highlighted.

Putin also stressed that the Russian army is becoming not only one of the most high-tech, but also one of the most combat-ready in the world.

"When the NATO troops get tired of fighting us, you can ask them. We are ready to continue this fight, and victory will be ours," the president added.

Moscow launched a military offensive in Ukraine in late February 2022 after recognising the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics (DPR and LPR), claiming that Kiev had failed to guarantee their special status under the 2014 Minsk Agreements, and urging Ukraine to declare itself officially neutral and give assurances that it would never join NATO.

Kiev denounced the Russian action as an invasion. Zelensky imposed martial law throughout the country, announcing a general mobilisation, while the EU and the US imposed several rounds of sanctions on Moscow.
