Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Grand Kremlin Palace on Tuesday awarded Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi with the highest state award of the Russian Federation - the Order of St Andrew the Apostle.
"You have really contributed to the fact that Russian-Indian relations have acquired the character of a particularly privileged strategic partnership. With your direct support, major Russian-Indian projects are being successfully implemented in the trade, economic, military and technical spheres, in the nuclear and hydrocarbon energy sectors, in the field of high technology and space," Putin stated.
In turn, Modi thanked the Russian leader for receiving the reward and calling it an ‘honour’ for all of India.
"I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the honour that was bestowed upon me when I was presented with this highest order of the Russian Federation. This order does not belong to me alone, it is an honour that has been bestowed upon the 1.4 billion people of India. It is a recognition of the age-old friendship and mutual trust between India and Russia," - Indian PM said.
Modi added that Putin laid the foundation for developing a prosperous relationship between the two countries.
"Over the past 25 years under your leadership, Russia-India relations have strengthened in all areas. Each time we see new milestones and heights being taken in the development of strategic relations between the two countries," - politic added.
The Order of St Andrew the Apostle is Russia’s highest state decoration and is awarded to prominent state and public figures for exceptional services contributing to the prosperity, greatness and glory of Russia.
Modi arrived in Moscow at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin for bilateral talks. The Indian leader is expected to attend a number of events in the Russian capital during the visit on July 8-9.
His last trip to Russia was in 2019, when the PM attended the Far Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok. He will travel to Austria at the conclusion of his visit.
