Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that a Palestinian State must be created as soon as possible, while speaking at the press conference following the Russian-Arab Co-operation Forum in Marrakech on Wednesday.

"This crisis - if we are to speak of any positive conclusions - has exacerbated the problem of establishing a Palestinian State to the extreme. Today, we were unanimous that this task must be fulfilled as soon as possible. Otherwise, these outbreaks of violence will continue," said the Russian diplomat.

In turn, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Hossam Zaki noted that trade between Russia and the Arab world had grown significantly since the first forum, established in 2009.

"I have to say that we can achieve even more in the future and, of course, we need to focus on improving the quality of co-operation and finding ways to counter the challenges we face," he added.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita remarked that Rabat had been 'one of the originators of this relationship', referring to the visit of the King of Morocco to Russia in 2002.

"Today, Morocco is an important economic partner of Russia on the African continent. This confirms the level of our co-operation, and of course, given the will that the parties have, it ensures the success of its results," emphasised Bourita.

Lavrov arrived in Marrakech on Wednesday to attend the 6th session of the Russian-Arab Co-operation Forum. The meeting participants discussed the situation in the Israel-Hamas conflict zone, crises in Yemen, Libya, Syria and Lebanon, as well as co-operation within BRICS, the UN and other international platforms.
