Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref has called on Russia to adopt a stronger stance at the United Nations to address what he characterised as Israeli "crimes" in Gaza and Lebanon. Aref made these remarks during discussions with Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin on Monday in Tehran.
"I condemn the crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza and Lebanon," Aref stated, urging Russia to take "constructive positions" in the UN Security Council to halt the violence.
In addition, Aref underscored the importance of collaboration between Iran and Russia to combat Western sanctions, citing their shared experiences.
Mishustin responded by expressing Russia's readiness to expand trade relations with Iran and emphasised the significance of the International North-South Transport Corridor, which links Russian and Iranian ports to markets in the Asia-Pacific and Africa. Mishustin is also scheduled to meet with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during his visit.
