New Delhi has 'similar positions' with Moscow at the United Nations and 'votes for all Russian initiatives', Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov claimed in Moscow on Tuesday.

"India is one of the most active members of the UN," stated Lavrov. "We speak from similar positions there. India votes for all Russian initiatives, including the inadmissibility of the glorification of nazism, the prevention of an arms race in outer space, ensuring international information security and much more."

In turn, Russian presidential aide Maxim Oreshkin remarked that as of today '70 per cent of trade turnover' between Russia and India is carried out in 'national currencies'.

"If there were no payments, if the funds did not pass through, then the figures that we reached in the volume of trade would certainly not have been achieved. There is a systematic development here. Step by step, barriers are being removed, national currencies are being actively used, as I said, and digital financial assets will be used by economic operators," he added.

The Indian prime minister arrived in Moscow on Monday for bilateral talks. His last trip to Russia was in 2019, when the PM attended the Far Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok.
