Jamal Al Kaabi, Director-General of Emirates News Agency (WAM), said that BRICS member countries can deepen media cooperation in the future, during the BRICS Media Summit in Moscow, Saturday.

"We believe that the future will reveal great opportunities for co-operation among the BRICS countries in various fields, including media, which is a crucial means of communication and influencing society. <...> We should strengthen media co-ordination, intensify cultural exchange, utilise the experience of the member countries, be open to the world and avoid a one-sided approach in presenting information," Al Kaabi said.

In his turn, Jose Juan Sanchez, President of media holding company CMA Group, said BRICS media should 'dispel the centre of information hegemony' of the US and Europe.

"It is our goal to make sure that the true economic face of BRICS, the group's social achievements and efforts in environmental protection reach the rest of the world, and that they are not influenced by the hegemonic media," Sanchez added.

The head of public affairs and strategic partnerships at the Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) noted that the BRICS media community is "instrumental in promoting a more balanced and multipolar world order."

The BRICS Media Summit takes place on September 14-15 at the Moscow World Trade Centre. Heads of more than 45 leading media structures and candidate countries are expected to participate in the event.

Russia has held the BRICS presidency since 1 January 2024. Five countries, including Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Ethiopia, have joined the organisation as full members since the beginning of this year.
