Eyewitnesses captured the moment of an explosion at a petrol station near Russia's Makhachkala in Dagestan Republic on Friday.
Footage shows a powerful blast as well as debris flying near the petrol station, as well as clouds of smoke rising into the sky.
According to preliminary information from Russia’s EMERCOM, five people were killed, including a child. Fifteen injured were taken to hospitals following the explosion. The building of the station was completely destroyed, while the fire engulfed 1,500 square metres. At least 119 specialists, 27 units of equipment and four fire brigades are working at the scene.
Head of Dagestan Sergei Melikov also arrived at the scene of explosion.
"All necessary assistance is being provided. The main focus of forces is to rescue people, extinguish the fire and identify the consequences. All services have worked promptly," Melikov said via his Telegram channel.
According to media reports citing operational services, there may still be people under the rubble.
The prosecutor's office of the republic organised an inspection following the fire at the petrol station in order to establish all the circumstances of the incident.
