Russian President Vladimir Putin wished the country's citizens a Happy New Year on Sunday and emphasised that 'there is no power' that can divide the nation, while delivering his traditional New Year's address in Moscow on Sunday.

"We have proved repeatedly that we are capable of completing the most complex tasks, and that we will never back down. Because there is no power that can divide us, make us forsake the memory and the faith of our fathers, to halt our development,", said Putin.

He also addressed the ‘historical stage’ that the country is going through.

"The most important thing that has united and still unites us is the fate of our motherland, a deep understanding of the highest importance of the historical stage that Russia is going through, those major goals that have been set before our society, and that tremendous responsibility for the Motherland that every one of us is feeling. We are clearly aware of how much in these times depends on us, our mindset for the better, our willingness to support each other with words and deeds," remarked the Russian leader.

Putin went on to congratulate the Russian servicemen currently on the frontline of the military offensive in Ukraine.

"I would like to address our servicemen today, everyone who is on combat duty, on the front lines of our fight for truth and justice. You are our heroes, and our hearts are with you all. We are proud of you, we admire your courage. I know that right now you feel the love of your close ones, people closest and dearest to you, the powerful and sincere support of millions of Russian citizens, the support of the entire nation," he said.

The Russian president reminded that the year 2024 had been declared the Year of the Family.

"A true large family is surely one where the children grow, where there is mutual understanding and warmth of heart, where people care for their elders, where there is love and mutual respect. It is this kinship between the generations, the love for your father's home that loyalty to one's motherland is born," he emphasised.

President Putin's New Year's address, during which he summed up the results of 2023, took 3 minutes and 44 seconds.
