The spectacular 'Games of the Future' closing ceremony took place in Kazan on Sunday, with hundreds of spectators watching performances and demonstrations of some of the disciplines from the iconic, inaugural hybrid sports event.

"The event provided an unforgettable experience with remarkable competitions, solidifying the 'Games of the Future' as a globally recognised brand and a tremendous success. Once again, Russia has demonstrated its leading role in the global sports community," said Dmitri Chernyshenko, Russian deputy prime minister.

Chernyshenko concluded his speech by stating that 'Kazan says farewell to the tournament, but for the 'Games of the Future', it's just the beginning' and said he was passing the baton 'to continue this enjoyment for both athletes and spectators'.

Head of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, expressed his gratitude to Russian President Vladimir Putin 'for the trust to hold this event here' and added that for the fortnight of the Games, the region's capital 'was in the spotlight of the entire world community'.

The 'Games of the Future' was the first ever phygital sports show to combine physical and digital competition, through 'real-life' sports and e-sports. It was held in Kazan from February 21 to March 3 with around 2,000 people participating in the competition.
