Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his re-election for a third term last month during a meeting at the president’s suburban residence in the Moscow region on Monday.

"I think this is not a coincidence but the result of your work over the years at the head of the government. You have your own ideas, you are a very energetic person, you know how to deliver results in the interest of India," Putin said.

Meanwhile, Modi thanked the Russian president for his invitation and Russia for organising a series of events during his visit.

"I have been in government for 10 years and I have this principle: reform, execute and transform. The people voted for that very principle. I am confident that I will work three times as hard in my third term."

The Indian Prime Minister arrived in Moscow at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin for bilateral talks. The Indian politician is also expected to attend a number of events in the Russian capital during a visit that will last from 8 to 9 July.

Modi's last trip to Russia was in 2019, when the PM attended the Far Eastern Economic Forum (EEF) in Vladivostok. He will travel to Austria at the conclusion of his visit.
