Description

Mauritania's President Mohamed Ould Sheikh Al-Ghazouani was seen being welcomed to Kazan for the BRICS Summit on Tuesday - but appeared defeated by a traditional Russian delicacy.

Footage shows him unsuccessfully attempting to break off a piece of 'karavai', a type of bread, before laughing off the incident.

He was also treated to the traditional Tatar deep-fried 'chak-chak'.

The 16th BRICS Summit is scheduled for October 22-24. World leaders from 22 countries are expected, with delegations from 36 nations, for one of the major economic, political and cultural events of the decade.

Russia has chaired BRICS since January 1, 2024. The group also expanded this year, growing in both size and influence to nearly half the world’s population and a third of the global economy.
