The development of the North-South International Transport Corridor (ITC) will bring 'mutual benefit' to Moscow and Baku, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated after talks with Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev on Monday.
"I would like to highlight our joint plans to implement the North-South project, which will allow us to have access to the Indian Ocean and make use of these routes for mutual benefit and interest," the Russian President stressed.
Putin also said that Russia and Azerbaijan intend to construct oil tankers together.
"Russia's United Shipbuilding Corporation, as the president has already mentioned, and the Baku Shipbuilding plant are launching production of modern River-Sea class tankers for oil transportation. Their deployment, including in the Azov-Black Sea and Caspian Sea routes, will enable us to significantly increase energy shipments to the world markets," Putin explained.
Putin arrived in Baku on Sunday for a two-day state visit. The Kremlin press service reported that the leaders discussed further development of Russian-Azerbaijani relations, strategic partnership and alliance, as well as current international and regional issues.
