Russian rescue teams were seen in the Makhachkala region at the site of a petrol station explosion, recovering a body and removing debris in search for survivors.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry has successfully extracted the bodies of six individuals from the debris at the site of an explosion at a petrol station in the village of Novy Khushet, located in the suburbs of Makhachkala.

The agency has released preliminary information indicating that the explosion resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including two children, and injuries to 21 people. The injured were transported to hospitals for further medical assistance.

The Russian Emergencies Ministry press service reported that the petrol station was destroyed, and the fire was contained to an area of 1,500 square metres. The incident is currently being managed by 119 specialists, 27 units of equipment, and four fire brigades.

The Head of the Republic, Sergei Melikov, arrived at the scene of the incident. He ordered all relevant agencies to provide all the necessary assistance.

"We will provide comprehensive support to all those affected by this tragedy," Melikov stated in his Telegram channel.

In response to the incident, the prosecutor's office of Dagestan has initiated an investigation to establish the circumstances of the fire at the petrol station.
