President Vladimir Putin said that Russians traditionally pay 'special attention' to their guests, while meeting with foreign students at the World Youth Festival in Sirius on Wednesday.
"You know, we have this tradition, we always pay special attention to our guests. <...> Where you study, you are not just guests, there you are full participants in the process. But here you are still guests, and we are trying to create conditions so that young people can communicate freely with each other, can find new friends, maybe partners for some common, joint activities for the future," said the president.
Putin also mentioned there were young people from warmer climates, asking a student from India what he thought of the weather in Siberia - who replied ‘very cold’. Putin added that in Russia 'the most important thing is to dress warmly'.
During his visit, Putin also toured the various expositions and exhibition centres of the Sirius Federal Territory.
The World Youth Festival takes place on March 1-7. According to the organisers, it intends to develop international youth co-operation and bring together 20,000 young people. The regional programme will take place on March 10-17, during which the participants will visit 30 Russian cities.
