A team of freedivers from Kazakhstan helped to clean the bottom of the Nizhny Kolsai Lake in the Alma-Ata region.
Footage captured on September 15 shows the eco-warriors swimming towards a boat with inflatables filled with rubbish and debris collected from the lakebed.
The divers had to reach depths from 10-15 metres, and the clean-up took two days to complete. Group leader Suleiman Tokhtamov said her crew would spend four hours in the water at a time.
The Kolsai Lakes consist of three reservoirs near the Tien Shan mountain range. In 2021, the national park under the same name was included in the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves list.
