Russian President Vladimir Putin at a XXI Annual Meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club session in Sochi on Thursday, said Moscow supports China and considers its policy towards Taiwan 'absolutely balanced'.

"We do not believe that China is pursuing an aggressive policy in the region. A lot of things revolve around Taiwan. Everybody formally recognises Taiwan as part of China. But what's the reality? In practice they act in a completely different direction, provoking the situation in the direction of aggravation. Why? Isn't it for the same reason they provoked the Ukrainian crisis?" Putin said.

In addition, the head of state stressed that cooperation between China and Russia is not directed against third countries, including the United States.

"Our co-operation and friendship with China is not against anyone. Our relations with China are not directed against third countries, including the United States. Our relations with China are aimed at creating conditions for the development of our countries and creating the necessary conditions for the security of our peoples," the president noted.

The president also pointed out that Russia has never sought to abandon the dollar as the world currency, but the Western countries provoked it.

"We are denied simply to use the dollar as an instrument of payment. Well, let it be. In my opinion, this is a terrible stupidity on the part of the US financial authorities, because this dollar holds all the power of the United States today. They are cutting it off with their own hands," Putin said.

The XXI Annual Meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club, themed 'A Lasting Peace - On What Basis? Universal Security and Equal Opportunities for Development in the 21st Century', took place in Sochi from October 4 to 7. The event hosted 140 experts, politicians, and diplomats from 50 countries across Eurasia, Africa, North America, and South America.
