A spectacular fireworks display was seen over Istiklol Square in Dushanbe, as crowds gathered to welcome the New Year on Sunday night.

Footage shows the colourful pyrotechnics lighting up the skies above the Istiklol monument to independence in Tajikistan's capital, with residents heard cheering during the dazzling spectacle.

Ahead of the fireworks, a special concert took place in the square, with participants from all across the country.
