Description

Russian servicemen in the Zaporozhye region are preparing to celebrate the New Year.

Footage published on Friday shows cook Aleksandr preparing dishes for the New Year's Eve table, while soldiers show a gift sent from the Russian Defence Ministry.

"On the table we will have sandwiches with liver pate, green peas, cheese, two kinds of muffins, wafers, pickles. We are supplied with sauces to enhance the flavour of the food prepared. The guys have asked us to make Olivier salad today, on the eve of the New Year's holidays, because the products supplied by the Ministry of Defence allow us to do so. There are sausages, mayonnaise, vegetables and pickles. Everything will be used to raise the morale and spirits of our fighters," Alexander said.

In turn, a serviceman with call sign 'Zeleny' said that despite the holiday, it was necessary to be on guard.

"I would like to celebrate the New Year at home again. I don't want to celebrate the second New Year's Eve here, but since that's the situation, we're bracing ourselves. <...> "[We will celebrate] modestly. <...> We can't relax here. Everyone is counting on us," he added.

On September 30, 2022, President Vladimir Putin agreed to sign documents allowing the accession of the DPR (Donetsk People's Republic) and LPR (Lugansk People's Republic), as well as the regions of Kherson and Zaporozhye, to the Russian Federation.

According to Moscow, it followed referenda in which people living in those areas exercised their right to self-determination and requested to join Russia.

Ukraine and its international allies condemned the move, calling it an annexation of Kiev’s sovereign territory.
