Londoners have had the chance to cast their ballots in the Central Synagogue, some Oxford residents voted in a laundrette, while Carlton residents voted under the tent of a caravan polling station.
"For me this is just totally British, really, having a polling station in the middle of a laundrette. There are polling stations in people's front rooms, and yeah, why not go for a laundrette as well?" said Andrew, a voter.
"There was one year when someone's actually getting on with their laundry in the background, you know. So you got people taking their washing out, while democracy's happening right next to them. Which is quite a good fun really," he added.
Polling stations opened at 07:00 GMT in 650 constituencies across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Official results are expected to start coming in after polls close at 22:00 GMT. This is the third UK general election in less than five years.
