Poland's Minister of Sport and Tourism, Witold Banka, has been elected as the new World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) president in Katowice, Poland, on Thursday.
Banka will succeed the 78-year-old Sir Craig Reedie, who will leave his office at the end of the year. Following his candidacy approval by the WADA Foundation Board members during the closing meeting in Katowice, the 35-year-old former 400m runner Banka promised to clean up the sport "to create [a] fair environment for clean athletes, to build [a] strong anti-doping system."
Ms Yang Yang, the former short track speedskater from China, was elected as the new Vice president.
WADA stakeholders reviewed the new World Anti-Doping Code approved by the Agency's Foundation Board earlier on Thursday. They also approved six new international standards related to the anti-doping.
