US President Joe Biden rallied supporters in Wisconsin on Friday, defiantly declaring his intention to remain in the race for re-election amid mounting criticism following a lacklustre debate performance.

"Folks, I'm the sitting President of the United States of America, no small part because of you," Biden told a crowd in Madison.

Biden also mistakenly mixed the years, intending to originally say '2024'.

"I'm staying in this race. I'll beat Donald Trump. I will beat him again in 2020."

Biden acknowledged his debate struggles but dismissed speculation about his future. "We had a little debate last week. Can't say it was my best performance," he admitted. "But here's my answer: I am running and gonna win again."

The president's resolve comes amid internal Democratic Party tensions, with Senator Mark Warner reportedly seeking discussions among senators about Biden's campaign. Biden, however, expressed confidence after speaking with numerous lawmakers who urged him to continue.

At the rally, Biden praised Vice President Kamala Harris and criticised Trump's leadership. He also mocked Trump's previous remarks about George Washington's Revolutionary War actions.

Biden's appearance in Wisconsin is part of a broader effort to reassure voters and donors about his candidacy ahead of the November election.
