Description

Just Stop Oil activists sprayed Stonehenge with orange powder paint the day before Summer Solstice celebrations on Wednesday.

Footage shows two environment activists approaching the 5,000-year-old historic site with what looks like fire extinguishers and spraying orange powder paint all over the landmark. Members of public were also seen running towards the activists in an attempt to stop the campaigners.

According to the official statement released by Just Stop Oil, the act was aimed at demanding the new UK government, which is set to be elected on July 5, to "sign up to a legally binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030."

The activists also claimed that the paint they sprayed over the UNESCO World Heritage Site was cornflour which later on will be washed away 'with rain.'

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak called that act 'disgraceful' while the leader of the Labour Party Keir Starmer described the incident as 'outrageous.'

Wiltshire Police announced that two people had been arrested on suspicion of damaging part of Stonehenge.
