Description

A group of Peruvian shamans met in Lima on Tuesday to invoke tranquillity and health for 2021 by performing rituals involving pictures of world leaders.

"Like every year, at the end of the year, we gather all the shamans from different regions of the coast, highlands and jungle bringing the good vibes, the good energies," explained shaman Felix Rondan Mejia.

One of the main concerns of the shamans was the COVID-19 pandemic, for which they clamoured for 'the health and well-being' of the country and the whole world.

"Vaccines will be given, they will be given and this will bring peace of mind to people," said a shaman.

In their ritual, the shamans also addressed the politics of the United States.

"We are just putting flowers on Joe Biden (as part of the ritual) so he makes good decisions in his government. We have seen that Donald Trump is there constantly, he is like a hole that is latent there. But we are covering President Joe Biden in flowers to move forward," said a Shaman.

Footage shows the shamans performing a ritual with coca leaves, musical instruments, flowers, figures and other objects.

Photographs of Mexico's Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador and Venezuela's Nicolas Maduro were also used in the ritual. The latter was trampled and beaten with swords by the shamans.
