Description

Several hundreds of Palestinians took to the streets in the West Bank city of Ramallah to demand a Gaza ceasefire and an end to hostilities on Saturday during a 'Land Day' rally.

Footage shows protestors of all ages gathering at Al-Manara Roundabout, holding Palestinian flags as well as banners and placards reading: 'Pulse of the West Bank, never calm down', 'The people decided to liberate. Eternal Land Day 2024', among others.

"The battle for land against colonialism is not over. Adhering to our land is now more important than it was in 1976. The Israeli settlements seized all land, and we have no other land. This is a firm belief for all the Palestinian people. We have no place but our land," one of the protestors said.

Another respondent mentioned that Land Day, a 'day of struggle' has become even more important this year 'due to the ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, the West Bank, and elsewhere'.

Palestinians firmly believe in their connection to their land and commemorate every March 30 as 'Land Day'. This tradition dates back to 1976 when Israeli forces reportedly killed six unarmed Palestinians and injured over a hundred during protests against Israel's expropriation of Palestinian-owned land.

Palestinians protest, hold vigils, and plant olive trees on Land Day to show their support for their homeland and rights.

Fighting in Gaza continues for the sixth month after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials. Iran subsequently praised the attack but denied direct involvement.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 32,705 people had been killed at the time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.

Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organisation by Israel and some of its closest allies, such as the US and the EU.
