Description

Locals in Khan Younis have restored a gym after discovering it in the basement of a building left in ruins amid the ongoing Israeli bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip.

Footage captured on Wednesday shows fitness enthusiasts of all ages working out in the new gym, which they say provides them with an outlet to 'vent stress and latent energy'.

"After the withdrawal of the Israeli military from Khan Younis three months ago, we found a club that had been shelled, consisting of three floors and a basement,” the gym’s owner explained.

“The basement was not directly hit but was full of debris with no signs of life in it. I was confident that life will return to this place as it was before. We began removing rubble, a process that lasted one month," he added.

Fighting between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.
