Dozens of students, alumni, and faculty members rallied in support of Gaza at The New School in New York on Wednesday, calling for an end to the conflict in Palestine and for the university to divest from Israeli-affiliated companies, as the Israel-Hamas war continues.

Footage shows protesters marching outside the university with Palestinian flags and placards, including: 'Anti-zionism is not anti-semitism!' and 'TNS alumni for Palestine encampment', among others, and chanting: 'Disclose, divest, we will not stop, we will not rest'. Some demonstrators could be seen in tents inside the building, with an inscription on the tents reading: 'Faculty against genocide'.

According to media reports, about two dozen faculty members joined the encampment and set up tents in the university's lobby.

"We are not afraid to speak out, we are not afraid to say that this is wrong and this has to be changed," expressed a TNS student, Mayim. She also said that people in the US have freedom of speech and can protest peacefully, 'the way it is right now'.

"The new generations are learning new things and are learning important stuff about history, and they are finally exposing what has been going on in the last 76 years," claimed DJ, another student.

Protesters demand the board of trustees hold an emergency vote to break ties with 13 Israeli-affiliated companies. Last week, faculty members voted in favour of a resolution backing the protesters' calls.

Last Thursday, local police reported 43 arrests during a pro-Palestine demonstration at The New School and 13 at New York University, adding to about 300 protesters detained the day prior at Columbia and the City College of New York, according to Mayor Eric Adams.

US President Joe Biden addressed the camps, claiming that he supported 'peaceful protest' but 'violent protest is not protected', adding that "vandalism, trespassing, breaking windows, shutting down campuses, forcing the cancellation of classes and graduations, none of this is a peaceful protest."

The pro-Palestine protests have been taking place on campuses across the world since last month after students at US Columbia University erected a protest encampment, calling for the institutions to cut ties with Israel amid the ongoing Gaza war.
