The US envoy to the UN said Washington is ready to lift sanctions against Iran that are 'inconsistent' with the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) agreement, speaking at a UN Security Council session in New York City on Tuesday.

"President Biden is prepared to return to US compliance and to stay in compliance, so long as Iran does the same,” United States Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield told the Council.

Under-Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo also briefed ambassadors on the international monitoring of Iran's nuclear programme, calling on Tehran “to reverse the steps it has taken that are not consistent with its nuclear-related commitments under the Plan.”

"The International Atomic Energy Agency indicated that Iran has continued its research and development activities related to uranium metal production,” DiCaprio added, after urging the US "to lift or waive its sanctions as outlined in the Plan and extend the waivers regarding the trade-in oil with Iran.
