Description

Various activist groups including student unions and the Black African and Afro-descendant Community in Spain (CNAAE), raised their fists protesting against racism in Madrid's Puerta del Sol on Sunday, taking part in the Black Lives Matter (BLM) protest.

"I think racism should totally disappear now in the European cities and countries. It's been years we've been suffering this discrimination after slavery until now, day after day, our sisters and brothers are being killed in American countries, in European cities," MP of Podemos in the Community of Madrid Serigne Mbaye stated.

Protesters held signs bearing messages such as 'Native or foreigner, the same working class' as others chanted slogans including 'Immigration Law kills' to decry racism.

"I was forced to be ashamed of my roots until I reached a point where I forgot the roots," a Black Lives Matter activist said.

Police officers could be seen watching the protest from afar.

The demonstration began outside the United States embassy in Madrid, as part of a global wave of protests against police killing of Black American George Floyd in May 2020.
