A group of pro-Palestine protesters tried to interrupt US VP Kamala Harris during her campaign rally speech in Michigan on Wednesday, and the fresh Republican nominee responded with her familiar 'I am speaking!' remark.
Protesters demanding an end to war in Gaza were heard repeatedly shouting: "Kamala, Kamala you can't hide, we won't vote for genocide," while Harris' supporters booed the opposers with supportive chants.
"You know what? If you want Donald Trump to win, then say that. Otherwise, I'm speaking," replied Harris with a sharp warning.
"We are not going back!" the audience responded.
This is not the first time Harris talks back using this line. During cross-talk at a vice presidential debate with Mike Pence in 2020, her 'Excuse me, I'm speaking' line became buzz-worthy.
At the rally, the Democratic frontrunner was accompanied by her recently nominated running mate Minnesota governor Tim Walz. 60-year-old Walz is in his second term as the state governor and chairs the Democratic Governors Association.
US President Joe Biden, who was participating in the presidential campaign until July, announced that he would not be seeking re-election on July 21 via X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Following Biden's statement, Vice President Kamala Harris announced her intention to become the candidate of the Democratic Party.
The US presidential election is scheduled for November 5. On July 15, the Republican Party convention nominated Donald Trump as their candidate for the 2024 race.
