Former US President Donald Trump said he 'took a bullet for democracy' while holding his first campaign rally in Grand Rapids on Saturday a week after an attempted assassination on July 13.

"And they [Democrats] keep saying, 'He's a threat to democracy'," claimed Trump and asked: "What the hell did I do for democracy? Last week, I took a bullet for democracy".

Shots were fired at Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on Saturday. The former president was seen with blood on his face after a bullet grazed his ear, as well as raising his fist to the crowd and shouting 'fight' as the secret service moved him to the motorcade.

The former president went on saying that if he takes office, he "will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled" and "will prevent World War III from happening."

He also recalled the comment made by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban saying that in case of Trump's win there is a possibility to implement 'detailed and well-founded' plans for peace between Russia and Ukraine.

The presidential nominee also reacted to the reports, accusing him of being in a good relationship with the DPRK's Kim Jong-un, declaring: "I got along with him great. You were never in danger with me as your president. It's a good thing to get along, not a bad thing."

"I said, 'Just relax, go to a nice, let's go to a baseball game, I will show you what's a baseball. We'll go watch the Yankees!’" recalled Trump.

Talking about the media that 'went crazy' after Trump called Chinese leader Xi Jinping a 'brilliant man', the former president said: "Okay. Let's say he's not a smart man. Okay, whatever makes you happy," and continued: "And you know, what else? He's a fierce person."

Trump also alleged that Biden's team might be cheating in the election and explained that this is the reason he says 'if we win' instead of 'when we win'.

"Did you see Nancy Pelosi is selling out Biden now? Did you see? She turned him like a dog. Well, I don't know if he should continue," declared the Republican presidential nominee, noting that Pelosi being 'not sure means he's gone'.

According to reports, Pelosi has not publicly called for Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race, however privately told him in a recent conversation that polling shows that the president can't defeat Donald Trump during the elections in November.
