Thousands of pro-Palesine protesters marched near the iconic Times Square in New York City on Saturday to demand an end to the ‘genocide’ in Gaza ahead of the first anniversary of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

Footage shows the rally participants holding banners, placards to denounce the conflict, flags of Lebanon and Palestine, as well as a giant figure of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Local police were also present at the rally site to safeguard public security.

"This genocide and the mass murder of our people in Gaza, this ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Gaza is not incidental, it's not an isolated event of human history. It's not a revenge of the Zionist killing machine for the act of the resistance that people of Gaza did in October 7,” stated a protester during his speech, “this is a systematic process taken outside of the colonial archive on how to subjugate the people of the Global South."

Independent candidate for the upcoming presidential elections Cornel West also took part in the demo, stating that people should continue supporting Palestinians against the ‘immoral and illegal genocide’.

Similar protests in support of Palestine and Lebanon took place across the world on Saturday, as part of International Day of Action, to stand in solidarity with civilians in Gaza.

The war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza broke out on October 7 after the Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

In the Gaza Strip, Israel launched a large-scale response of airstrikes and a ground incursion. Palestinian officials reported that 41,534 people had been killed and more than 96,092 injured at the time of publication.
