The moment Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh received the news that three of his sons had been killed in an Israel airstrike was capture in footage from Doha on Wednesday.

The chairman of Hamas’s political bureau is seen during a visit to those wounded in the Gaza war, at a hospital in the city.

The Israel strike took place on the vehicle in Al-Shati Refugee Camp in Gaza City earlier on Wednesday, and also reportedly killed four of Haniyeh's grandchildren.

“Three of Ismael Haniyeh’s children, Hazem, Amir, and Mohammed, were killed by an airstrike that targeted their car in Al-Shati Refugee Camp in Gaza City,” Hamas said in a statement.

The IDF said the men killed were 'three Hamas military operatives that conducted terrorist activity in the central Gaza Strip'.

"The three operatives that were struck are Amir Haniyeh, a cell commander in the Hamas military wing, Mohammad Haniyeh, a military operative in the Hamas terrorist organisation and Hazem Haniyeh, also a military operative in the Hamas terror organisation," the statement claimed.

Ismael Haniyeh, the 61-year-old Hamas leader who is based in Qatar, said that the deaths of his children 'won’t affect Hamas’ demands to negotiate a ceasefire'.

“Our demands are clear and specific and won’t be conceded. If the enemy believes that killing my sons at the height of negotiations and before Hamas’s reply will make us change our position, then this enemy is delusional,” Haniyeh added in a televised interview.

In November, an Israeli airstrike destroyed Haniyeh’s house in Gaza. His eldest son, Abdul Salam, wrote on social media: "Praise be to God who honoured us by their martyrdom; my three brothers Hazem, Amir, and Mohammed alongside their sons in Al-Shati Camp in the great city of Gaza."

Fighting in Gaza between Israel and Hamas is currently in its seventh month. The Palestinian group launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 33,482 people had been killed and 76,049 injured at the time of publication.

The Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza, before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
