Description

Bethel Church in Aleppo reopened on Sunday, with a ceremony following restoration work undertaken due to severe damage inflicted during the Syrian conflict.

The mass was complemented by a parade outside the church, attracting the attention of by-passers.

Head of the Armenian Protestant community in Syria, Pastor Dr. Haroutune Selimian, welcomed the reopening.

"Bethel Church was a cultural and charitable monument during the past years of the war. In this church, we witnessed how Muslims and Christians came and met each other. This was a meeting point to rehabilitate our young men and women, and at the same time, to perform prayers for our Lord, so that God may heal Syria and protect Syria," he said.

The pastor also added: "We want to get spiritual learning and education. To be able to extend bridges between humans and the creator and humans with other humans."

The opening ceremony of the Armenian Evangelical Church comes as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the start of the Syria war.
