Description

Tokyo's teamLab Planets has broken the Guinness World Record for 'most visited museum' in the single art group category after attracting over 2.5 million visitors in one year.

Footage shows visitors at the museum enjoying the immersive experience as they interacted with stunning lights and visual effects installations.

"We sometimes need something that makes us [expand] our perceptions and the way of seeing this world and the art has power for that," explained Takashi Kudo, the teamLab Communications Director.

He said the museum is focused on combining the tech experience with physical bodies.

"That's a reason why at the entrance you have to take off your shoes and socks and be barefoot, and it's more like you feel the artworks with physical bodies," he continued.\

teamLab's Planets museum beat it's own Guinness World Record - which was set by teamLab Borderless: MORI Building Digital Museum in Odaiba in 2019, which attracted more than 2.1 million visitors.

Next, the museum is reportedly making plans to expand with new art spaces and installations in 2025.
