Hundreds of football fans gathered to watch Cameroon play against Ethiopia in the Cup of Africa Nations on Thursday at a fan zone in Yaounde.

The venue, named CAN (Cup of Africa Nations) Village, was set up at the Club France sports centre and was offered as an alternative to watching the match at a stadium.

Fans were able to gather together in support of their team, watch a projected livestream of the match and celebrate Cameroon’s 4-1 victory against Ethiopia

“You know, at the stadium it is true that with all the constraints, it is not easy. That is not the problem. It is more important to always be among family, community, and to watch this in the fanzone,” said a fan, while referring to the current COVID-19 restrictions in place at the stadium.

“Because at the fanzone we have everybody together, the whole community together, we have all the Cameroonians in one heart,” added the fan.

The African Cup of Nations is held this year in Cameroon and will continue until the final match on February 6.
