Argentina's President Javier Milei claimed 'moral posturing' and the 'woke agenda' was finally 'coming up against reality', during his speech to the UN General Assembly High-level General Debate on Tuesday.

"We are coming to the end of a cycle of collectivism and the moral posturing and the woke agenda is coming up against reality. There are no further credible solutions to the real problems of the world," he said. "If the 2030 agenda fails, as recognised by its own promoters, the response should be to wonder whether or not this was an ill-conceived programme from the outset, we should accept this reality and change what we're doing."

"Argentina will not support any policy that implies restricting individual or trade freedoms, nor the violation of natural rights of individuals," he added, saying he would "officially express our dissent on the Pact for the Future that was signed on Sunday."

"I invite all nations of the free world to support us, not only in relation to this pact, but also in the establishment of a new agenda for this noble institution. That is the agenda for freedom," he said.

The UN's 'Pact of the Future' covers climate change action, AI, conflicts, inequality and poverty. Buenos Aires claimed 'many points' in the blueprint would 'hold back' the country.

"We proposed constructive actions that were not always taken into account, and that led to us deciding to dissociate ourselves," said Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, adding that many of the agenda's parts were 'non-binding aspirations'. Russia also claimed that "no one is happy with this text", while UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said the plan would 'bring multilateralism back'.

The UNGA High-level General Debate continues in New York until September 30.
