Dozens of Palestine supporters rallied in front of a military base in Sao Paolo on Wednesday, demanding the government to impose an arms embargo on Israel.

Footage shows protesters demonstrating with Palestinian flags and banners reading: 'Israel is a genocide state!' and 'Palestinian children want to live'.

"We have to call for an immediate ceasefire! And mainly, to break all relations with this bandit, murderous, genocidal state that is the state of Israel, and that is why we came here because we cannot accept these agreements," explained Mohamed, one of the protesters.

Among others, protesters were insisting on an embargo on the shipment of Brazilian oil and oil crude for Israel, claiming the fuel to be used to "fill the tanks of planes that bomb the Gaza strip."

"Since the Brazilian government recognises that the state of Israel is a murderous state and is carrying out a genocide, nothing fairer than breaking military and economic relations to put an end to this genocide," said Altino, another protester.

The protest was reportedly triggered by the upcoming end of a 60-day suspension to the signing of the contract with the Israeli company Elbit Systems for 36 armoured vehicles with 155 mm howitzers, which should be resumed from the second week of July.

The signing of a 145 million dollar contract was postponed by Brazil's Defence Minister Jose Mucio Monteiro for more 'political discussions' amid pressure by human rights organisations and political figures to cease arms trade with Israel due to the ongoing war in Gaza.

Part of the International BDS Movement (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions), the protest kicked off nine months after Hamas launched an unprecedented attack on southern Israel on October 7, killing 1,139 people, mostly civilians, and kidnapping over 200, according to Israeli officials.

Israel declared war on the group and a 'complete siege' of Gaza, with a large-scale campaign of air strikes. A ground incursion began at the end of the third week, with Israeli leaders vowing to 'wipe out' Hamas. Palestinian officials reported that at least 37,900 people had been killed and more than 87,060 injured at the time of publication.

The IDF claimed that Hamas locations and infrastructure were targeted in the response. However, United Nations experts warned against 'collective punishment' for the people of Gaza before predicting a 'humanitarian crisis' and then claimed that 'hell is settling in' for the region.
