Description

Senegal national football team head coach Aliou Cisse dedicated the team's AFCON title to the Senegalese population after winning the final on penalties against Egypt in Yaounde on Sunday.

Sadio Mane's last penalty finally delivered a first African Cup for perennial underachievers Senegal after the two teams battled out a tense 0-0 draw over 120 minutes.

Mane smashed in the decisive penalty in a shootout into the bottom left corner to beat Egypt. The Liverpool winger made up for missing a crucial penalty early in the game.

During the second half, the boys never gave up. I think that this proves the mental strength of this generation. We are very happy. We dedicated this victory to the Senegalese people, truly to the Senegalese people, because since the independence until today we are going after this first star. Today on our jersey we will have one star too," stated Cisse during the post match press conference.

Senegal had famously lost two finals previously, including last edition's final vs Algeria in 2019.
