Description

Hundreds of protesters marched against the COVID-19 vaccine pass in Paris, on Saturday, in a demonstration meant to be joined by the Canadian-inspired Freedom Convoy, which police largely blocked from entering the French capital.

Demonstrators opposing pandemic restrictions were seen carrying banners reading "Welcome to Freedom Convoy", "Freedom, stop vaccine pass, stop experimental injections", "No to vaccination of children".

"Unfortunately we could not arrive in a convoy to Paris, it was, of course, forbidden. We still tried to negotiate things but it was very difficult to arrive to Paris, the campers in particular could not pass but we had a simpler car, it was easier," said Pierre, a protester coming from Maine et Loire who was among the few Freedom Convoy participants who was able to enter Paris.

Authorities deployed thousands of police officers around the capital over the weekend to stop Freedom Convoy, which was inspired by a protest against vaccine mandates in Canada, and has been blocking a major bridge to the United States for the past week.

France's version of the Freedom Convoy is also protesting high fuel prices.
