Description

Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Joanne Ou said her country rejected Beijing’s policies of 'one China’ and 'one country, two systems', during a briefing in Taipei on Monday.

"We, the people of Taiwan, will not accept the 1992 consensus on the 'One China' principle first set by China, and we resolutely reject any final predetermined proposal such as 'one country, two systems,' she said.

"We should solemnly warn the Chinese authorities that they should give up strengthening the political framework and acts of coercion and aggression by force, respect the people of Taiwan, and adhere to sovereignty and the democratic and free way of life," Ou continued.

Chinese President Xi Jinping referred to 'one country, two systems', used to describe the method of governance in Hong Kong and Macau, during his address to the 20th Communist Party Congress.

Beijing views Taiwan as part of its territory under the 'One China' principle, while the island has never officially declared independence.
