Footage filmed on Saturday night features police officers at the scene of a knife attack that left three people dead and five others seriously injured at a festival in the western German city of Solingen, according to police.

The attack happened during a festival in the city centre on Friday evening. A man randomly stabbed passers-by at the festival, which was celebrating the 650th anniversary of the city's founding.

According to media reports, police later deployed 40 tactical vehicles to search for the suspect in the stabbing incident.

"We immediately arrived in Solingen with a large contingent of police. We have cordoned off various streets, we have also searched with a helicopter, and in the meantime we have many investigators on site who are questioning witnesses, particularly with the aim of finding the perpetrator, because at the moment we still don't know exactly what he looks like," said Alexander Kresta, the Head of the press office at Wuppertal Police Department.

He went on to say that the investigators depend on the testimony of witnesses, particularly on videos, photos, or other observations by people who were present at the scene.
