Description

Bolivian President Luis Arce Catacora introduced the national plan which can 'generate development' and 'growth' as well as 'guarantee economic stability' during his visit to Mayaya Centro X1 Field in Alto Beni on Tuesday, as the vast natural gas reserve was found there.

"[It] is the greatest heritage that Bolivians have achieved for many years. We have been the guarantee and we will always be the guarantee of the stability of our country," he claimed.

The president also stressed that the economic dependence of the country on imports is 'the worst' that could be received as an 'inheritance of mismanagement' in the hydrocarbons sector and the economy.

"We are correcting that, we do not want to be dependent, we don't even import the hydrocarbons of everything we use. That's why we have aimed at industrialisation, that is part of the economic plan, part of the plan to guarantee the stability of the Bolivian people," Arce concluded.

In his X (formerly Twitter) account he described the discovery as the 'beginning of a new chapter for the northern sub-Andean region' and 'hope of maintaining [Bolivia] as an important gas exporter.'

Earlier, he reported that 500 million dollars were spent for exploring the north of La Paz years ago and 'absolutely nothing was found.' With an additional investment of 50 million dollars, the third best-producing field in the country was discovered, according to his statement.

Bolivian Fiscal Oil Fields (YPFB) company launched the drilling at the Mayaya Centro X1 Field in November 2022 as a part of their Upstream Reactivation Plan. According to the estimated data, 1,7 trillion cubic metres of gas were registered in the field dubbed as 'the most important discovery since 2005'.
