Thousands of Senegalese football fans celebrated on the streets of Dakar their national team's win over Egypt on AFCON final on Sunday.

Some of them had gathered on Dakar's fan zone since the late afternoon to watch the game on the big screens.

"We've been waiting for this for so many years and they gave it to us, we're really happy," said a female Senegalese fan.

“Everyone is happy, the whole world, even those who are not Senegalese because they know that this team deserves this trophy because we have a dream team made up of the best in the world today. It is the most expensive team in Africa, from the goalkeeper to the attackers. They are a phenomenal team,” said another Senegalese fan amidst the celebrations.

Senegal beat Egypt 4-2 on penalties, after the regular and extra time ended 0-0, with the winning penalty scored by the team's star Sadio Mane.

This was Senegal's first African Cup of Nations, after two defeats in the finals of 2002 and 2019.
