Over 80 professional jamon carvers have reportedly set a Guinness World Record by placing 680 kilogrammes of Iberian jamon over 217 square metres in Huelva on Saturday.
Footage shows participants slicing jamon into thin slices, weighing it, and placing it on a table already covered with layers of the dry-cured Spanish delicacy.
"We are trying to beat the record for the biggest plate of ham in the world, a plate of more than 200 square metres and more than 640.7 kilogrammes of jamon, that's the total of the record, if we beat that, we will achieve it," shared one of the organisers, Juan Bautista Gil.
He elaborated that the goal is to cut about 165 pork legs, each roughly 3.8 to 4 kilogrammes, resulting in 'around 650-660 kilogrammes', noting that 85 cutters would be working on it.
"Of course, we are going to beat it, we have a lick, and now we are cutting the second batch of jamon, and of course, we will reach the challenge," asserted a jamon carver.
Another participant called it 'a passion', sharing that before the largest ham plate record, he "was here in Huelva also making the biggest sandwich in the world, 1 kilometre."
According to media reports, the Iberian Commando Association held the event in an attempt to set a Guinness World Record and honour one of Spain's world-renowned culinary gems.
