Description

Vietnamese chef Thien An Nguyen made a notable impression at the 2024 Battle of the Chefs in Malaysia, clinching the Gold Medal in the Modern Stylish Wedding Cake category and the Silver Medal in the Pastry Art Showpiece category. The competition, held in late June at Setia SPICE arena in Penang, saw participation from over 1,200 chefs worldwide.

Footage from Ho Chi Minh City shows Nguyen meticulously preparing his award-winning "Harmony" wedding cake. The three-layered creation reflects a deep artistic concept: the first layer represents the "meeting stage," the second symbolises the "prism of time" with its contrasting colours, and the top layer signifies "understanding and harmony."

Nguyen emphasised the importance of focusing on every detail. "Creating the most complete piece requires attention to shapes and colours," he said. Thi Thanh Thao Nguyen, who assisted him, praised the cake's colour blending, noting, "Despite the use of many contrasting colours, they blend perfectly, showcasing an exceptional sense of colour."

Looking ahead, Nguyen plans to incorporate Vietnamese agricultural products like cashew nuts and coffee into his future works. He also aims to blend fairy tale themes and traditional elements like Dong Ho paintings into his designs.

The Battle of the Chefs, a biennial event established in 1988, continues to be a prestigious platform for culinary talents, reflecting the global diversity and innovation in the field.
