Description

Around 50 armed demonstrators marched towards and then gathered outside the Ohio State Capitol building in Columbus on Sunday afternoon, while security was stepped up around statehouses around the nation amid the growing possibility of unrest ahead of Inauguration Day.

Though the protesters were heavily armed with assault rifles, bulletproof vests, and more, the demonstration was peaceful. The Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed that there was no violence and no arrests have been made.

The large number of firearms on display was legal as Ohio is an open-carry state, meaning licensed owners may display their weapons in public.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine had already confirmed the deployment of some 580 National Guard soldiers to secure government buildings in the state leading up to President-elect Joe Biden's inauguration.

Furthermore, security measures have been stepped up in all 50 state capitols amid the FBI warning of possible armed protests in the aftermath of the attack on the US Capitol during Biden's election certification by Congress.
