Description

Famous African-American film director Spike Lee was among activists who marched through New York City's Brooklyn on Tuesday after former police officer Derek Chauvin was found guilty of murder in the death of George Floyd in May 2020.

American activist Maya Wiley was also present and addressed the crowd outside Barclay's Center.

"We got justice, for once. For once. We got a little bit of what we deserve. To be seen as people who deserve to breathe. But look what we didn't get: peace of mind that we would get a jury verdict that said a prosecution proved its case," she said.

Chauvin was found guilty on all counts including second-degree murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, a Black man who died after Chauvin kneeled on his neck and back for more than nine minutes. Sentencing, in this case, is expected in around eight weeks, with Chauvin facing up to 75 years in prison.
